Michael O’Neill is a writer and former priest, school superintendent, academic, and peace activist. He has published ten books and more than a hundred articles and essays. His short story “Lilli” appears in the May 2016 issue of Reed Magazine, the oldest literary journal west of the Mississippi River. His debut novel, Lilli’s Question, was published by Atmosphere Press in 2026.
Michael was a professor and administrator at the University of San Francisco for nearly forty years and also taught at the University of Notre Dame and Boston College. He has a master’s degree from Catholic University of America and a doctorate from Harvard University, both in education. He spent 1982 working in the California nuclear weapons freeze campaign.
